Cursaris estimates cost basis the way each book actually settles — futures realized per closed trade and netted for the year, with Section 1256’s 60/40 split where it applies; spot matched lot by lot, with HIFO and loss-harvesting on top — then exports it. It’s the number you hand to Koinly, not a filing service.

Every closed perp is realized on close, net of fees and funding — then the year is netted, so losses offset winners before any rate applies.
